National Emergency Alert testing Sunday 7 September 2025
Posted 05 September 2025 — Anyone
On Sunday 7 September 2025, the government will be carrying out an emergency alert
test at 3pm.
If you are taking a pupil for a lesson around this time, please make sure you turn
your phone off and ask them to do the same. This way, you won’t be interrupted
while the lesson takes place.
The service is used to warn you about life-threatening emergencies such as severe
flooding or terror attacks. It will make a loud siren-like sound for around 10
seconds and the message will appear on your device for 20 seconds and show a
message on your phone screen. If you receive a test alert, you do not need to do anything.
You MUST NOT hold a mobile phone while driving or riding a motorcycle. It is
illegal to do so. If you receive an alert while driving, do not pick up your
phone and attempt to deal with the message. Continue driving as normal, staying
in full control of your vehicle. If you feel the need to look at your phone,
you must find a safe and legal place to pull over first.

You can opt out of receiving emergency alerts if you need to.
