Life Time Achievement Award Sue Duncan

Winner photo

We are incredibly proud to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Sue Duncan, a true champion of the driving instruction community and the dedicated General Secretary of the Approved Driving Instructors National Joint Council (ADINJC).

For years, Sue has been at the heart of the ADINJC, tirelessly supporting driving instructors across the UK. Whether it’s answering questions, offering guidance, or standing up for instructors’ needs, Sue’s kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication have made a real difference in countless lives. Her passion for the industry and commitment to helping others have left a lasting impact that will be felt for years to come.

Sue has also played a key role in bringing the community together, organizing major events like the National Conference & Expo, which provides instructors with invaluable opportunities for learning, networking, and growth. Her ability to foster connection and support within the industry is a true testament to her character and her lifelong dedication.

Congratulations to Sue Duncan on this well-deserved recognition! Your contributions have shaped the driving instruction industry, and this award is a small token of appreciation for the incredible work you’ve done.

Regarding the Sue.

From the Lynne Barrie, Chair of the ADINJC:

An ADI herself for many years she has put her energy in to the industry as a whole. She has been NJC secretary for many years, works endlessly for the members and goes above and beyond to help people in the industry. She fights for a member if they deserve help and liaises with DVSA or others on their behalf. She was an enormous help to ADIs over Covid. She has worked as a volunteer for many years not just for the NJC but when the Big Learner Relay was going she was a huge part of it, working with the organising team and then out on the road and organising the parties at the end . She helped with The Honest Truth and setting it up working with Olly Taylor and she has always helped run the very successful initial NJC conferences and now the NJC and II conventions and expos. She still attends her local association meetings and events at APDI SW Association of Professional Driving Instructors (Plymouth Group) where I believe she was secretary for many years, and that's where she met Lynne Barrie.

She has been secretary for NASP on a voluntary basis and takes the minutes when meetings are held. Member of IMTD.

She holds one of the highest driving awards (you would need to ask Olly exactly what) but she now works for the police on a voluntary basis driving their cars to new destinations etc.

Even now she still has loads of energy and volunteers for many local Plymouth organisations as well.

From Chris Bensted, DITC Founder:

I first encountered Sue Duncan when I attended my first ever conference when I started in the industry 16+ years ago. Sue was an important figure then, and has continued to be through my whole career, but often an unrecognised one. She was always a major cog behind the wheels of the ADINJC and is a large part of their success as an association. Her dedication was magnified by the fact she lives in Plymouth, a lesson to all those that object to travelling more than 30 mins for CPD! Sue was always present, and always involved. She has an excellent reputation as an ADI delivering training to learners through to full licence holders and has always brought enthusiasm and passion to what she does. I must also mention Geoff, Sue’s partner who sadly died in 2023, who was always by her side. An absolute gentleman who complimented Sue so well, they were such a great team.

I was privileged to team up with Sue as part of the Big Learner Relay committee, supporting Lou Walsh and the team in making the relay a success. Sue was a stalwart member of the team and I know Lou valued her dearly. This award is long over due and Sue is absolutely deserving of the recognition that it shows.
