GLASGOW, UNITED KINGDOM. Award winning start-up GoRoadie, an online platform which enables learner drivers to connect with driving instructors, has hit Glasgow’s roads.
Founded in 2017, by developers Michael Carr and Barry White, the Dundee-based company helps driving students search, compare and book a driving instructor who suits them. It also houses tools which allow instructors to easily manage their students, holding necessary contact details in one place.
GoRoadie, boosted with the support of Elevator’s 12-week accelerator programme - designed to maximise business potential - is set to launch in Glasgow today 17th May 2019. The company has already partnered with 19 instructors in the city, with this number set to increase by 25% over the coming week.
Michael Carr, co-founder of GoRoadie, said: “Launching in Glasgow is a huge achievement. Unlike previous locations Glasgow is a mega-city, meaning we had to revamp our search functionality to ensure we captured all audiences. We worked closed with a number of instructors to ensure we built the right solution for the job. As always, gathering customer feedback is extremely valuable to us.
“Our model has already proven to be successful in two of Scotland’s cities. After launching in Aberdeen just under 2 months ago we have seen a spike in bookings and already have over 1,000 bookings in Dundee in just 1 year.“
“Our strategic plan is to grow GoRoadie nationally, with our fundamental goal being job creation. In the next 12 months we aim to recruit five employees, while continuing to support instructors who work for national franchises become independent. Our ambition is to be synonymous with driving lessons, such that Airbnb is with flat shares.“
Andy Campbell, Head of Elevator’s Accelerator, said: “Michael and Barry are great examples of the Elevator programme, working with their customers to really understand their needs, building the latest and greatest features. We continue to work with GoRoadie, encouraging and offering support through workshops and coaching. A company and team on the up for sure!“
Commenting on the platform, current driving instructor Lynn Atkinson of Val and Lynn’s Driving School, said: “When I first heard of GoRoadie and the platform I was really excited for independent instructors to use it, I could see the benefits straight away! Giving the students a wide range of instructors with a wealth of knowledge and to meet their individual needs – it is a no brainer for people wanting to learn to drive.”
Early this year, GoRoadie was announced as SME100's Most Innovative Solution for Locating Driving Instructors. The company also secured the Commended Side Hustle of the Year Award at the UK Startups Awards in London last year.
